Ingredients:

  • 900 g of flour

  • 3 yolks and 1 whole egg

  • 50 g of baker’s yeast

  • 3 large spoonfuls of lard

  • 14 large spoonfuls of sugar

  • 400 ml of lukewarm milk

  • 100 ml of water

  • 800 g of ground poppy

Make a smooth batter of flour, milk, sugar, eggs and baker’s yeast. Leave the batter in a warm spot to rise and then split it in two or four parts, stretch them and fill with ground poppy seeds that have been boiled in milk with sugar. Bake at 200 degrees Celsius for about 45 minutes. After baking, cover with powdered sugar and vanilla sugar and let the cake cool.

Did you know? To make the best walnut strudel, always use eggs from home-grown chickens and cover the strudel in powdered sugar icing after baking. The colours and aromas of this cake will bring back the treasured childhood moments spent with your grandma.
