
The Danube region is well known for its traditional wine production and farming, as well as production of cheese and other dairy products. This thematic route in the Danube region includes both visits to small rural households and big producers of cheese and wine. Visitors have a chance to see the entire production process, from farms and vineyards, to wine cellars and tasting.
Day 1: Welcome drink and sightseeing in the Osijek city center followed by a short drive to Lug village and a visit to Geto family household, well known for production of goat cheese. Tasting of the best products made of milk, meat and homegrown paprika, introduction of Baranja wine, rakija and homemade cakes. Visit to the Ilok wine cellars, tour of the winery, dinner and tasting of famous Ilok wines. Overnight stay at the winery accommodation.
Day 2: Breakfast. The city tour of Ilok, a town that has at least one winery in each street, surrounded by the hills covered by vineyards. A visit to the Principovac manor, built for the noble family Odescalchi. Wine tasting and lunch at the manor restaurant. Drive to Novi Sad, panoramic city tour, dinner by the Danube shore. Overnight stay at a hotel.
Day 3: Breakfast. Drive to the national park Fruska gora, visit to Jazak village and monastery. Visit to the household Gorski, well known for goat breeding and cheese production. Tasting. A short break and walk through Vrdnik thermal spa. Drive to Sremski Karlovci, tour of the city center and a visit to the Kuglof museum where the group takes part in a gastronomical workshop. Guests learn how to make delicious homemade dough with poppy, as well as Kuglof, a traditional cake from the age of Austro-Hungarian Empire, according to recipes that are over 100 years old. Dinner and wine tasting in wine cellar of Benisek-Veselinovic. Overnight stay in Novi Sad.
Day 4: After breakfast, drive to Djurdjevo village. Visit to the „Two Doves“distillery that makes the best homemade whiskey using only local ingredients, and keeping it in specially prepared oak barrels. The quality of their whiskey is often compared to Scottish and Irish. A short drive to nearby village Curug and visit to Radiscic household that produces cow cheese flavored with spices, smoked cheese, fresh cheese etc. A visit to craft shop Bombonica, that nurtures the tradition of „silk candy“ production. Introduction to the production process and tasting of candies. Visit to the Botic vinery, wine tasting and free time in the Nature park Stara Tisa, a rare white water lily habitat. A visit to the Golf Center where guests can try golfing and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Dinner and return to hotel in Novi Sad.
Day 5: Breakfast. Drive to Bezdan with a short visit to Sombor with panoramic city tour. Visit to a traditional rural household Nas salas, where the group attends a thematic culinary workshop – How to make a traditional Gibanica (a kind of a cheese pie). After the workshop, group returns to Croatia only by crossing the bridge over the Danube. Visit to the famous Belje factory, well known for both cheese and wine production. Wine and cheese tasting, return to Osijek. End of programme.
