Along its banks lie remarkable landscapes, historic cities, and vibrant traditions — from the vineyards of Austria and the lively streets of Budapest to the cultural heritage of Serbia and the pristine ecosystems of the Danube Delta.
The “Danube bridges” podcast explores the opportunities and challenges shaping tourism along this unique transnational corridor. Through conversations with tourism experts, destination leaders, and practitioners from across the region, the series highlights the Danube’s cultural, historical, and natural richness while discussing how collaboration and innovative approaches can strengthen sustainable tourism development.
The podcast is hosted by Gordana Plamenac, President of the Board of the Danube Competence Center and former CEO of the National Tourism Organisation of Serbia. With decades of experience in tourism development, destination marketing, and international cooperation, she brings deep industry insight to every conversation. Through her discussions with guests from across the tourism sector, the podcast offers valuable perspectives on the opportunities and challenges shaping tourism along the Danube.

Episode 1 – “Danube culture stories”
The first episode explores the potential of the Danube’s rich cultural and natural heritage as a foundation for developing joint tourism products across the region. The discussion focuses on how marketable Danube tourism experiences can be created and why cooperation—rather than competition—among destinations is essential for strengthening the region’s visibility and increasing tourism flows.
Episode 2 – “Danube Guides Invite”
In the second episode, certified Danube Guides from Germany, Moldova, and Bulgaria share their perspectives from the field, presenting the river as both a familiar and surprising destination. Through their experiences guiding visitors along different sections of the Danube, they discuss how the river’s lesser-known stories, landscapes, and traditions can be interpreted and brought to life for travelers.
Episode 3 – “Nature, Education and Tourism”
The third episode brings together experts from nature protection, education, and tourism to explore the role of knowledge and environmental awareness in the development of sustainable tourism. The discussion focuses on how education can be integrated into green and youth tourism products, and how learning and tourism can work together to support a more sustainable future for the Danube region.
