As the Danube Competence Center, serving as the National EuroVelo Coordination Centre for Serbia, we were once again in attendance at the EuroVelo General Meeting 2025 – continuing our tradition of active participation in the European cycling tourism network. Our presence in Balatonfüred, Hungary, on 24 September reaffirmed our commitment to supporting the development of all three EuroVelo routes passing through Serbia and fostering collaboration with fellow national coordination centres. The meeting also provided an excellent opportunity to hold several important bilateral and multilateral discussions around upcoming projects and regional strategies — more on that soon.
During the meeting, hosted in hybrid format by the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) and supported by Active Hungary, representatives from 21 countries participated, 53 in person and 12 online. A key topic on the agenda was the mid-term review of the EuroVelo 2030 strategy, which focused on evaluating progress from the last five years and defining priorities for the next five. In addition, applications from two new National EuroVelo Coordination Centres — one in Liechtenstein (via SwitzerlandMobility) and one in Poland — were approved. Congratulations!
Workshops featured more prominently this year, with the final session comprising discussion tables on governance, monitoring, route development, services, and private-sector collaboration. These interactive sessions provided valuable insights into how networks at different stages of development face unique challenges. It was also a great opportunity for us to explore potential partnerships and knowledge-exchange opportunities, especially given our work on EuroVelo 6, 11, and 13 routes in Serbia.
Looking ahead, we are excited to share that we will soon announce some major news related to our activities in the field of cycling tourism and our role as the Serbian NECC — developments that build directly on the momentum from this meeting. Stay tuned: our discussions at EVGM 2025 helped shape these upcoming steps, and we look forward to revealing more details shortly.
